The Jessop Wing is part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is one of largest NHS Trusts in the country serving the city of Sheffield and the wider region. We also provide some services nationally.

The Jessop Wing opened in 2001 and is a purpose built maternity unit where approximately 6,400 babies are born every year. In addition to a 15-bed labour ward, four labour ward assessment rooms and a newly developed bereavement suite, there are two postnatal wards and one antenatal ward, an admission Triage area and an advanced obstetric care unit. One of the postnatal wards specialises in caring for women who have had a caesarean section. In addition, the Jessop Wing Community Midwifery Service attend approximately 150 home births per year.

Library and Knowledge Services

Your ideas and views are important

We encourage all staff to become involved in the development of high quality, efficient services and we know that those colleagues who are involved in delivering a service or care are often best placed to see where we can make it even better for patients, visitors or indeed each other. That is why we run regular ‘Give it a Go Weeks’ to showcase innovation and encourage all individuals and their teams to test out their own ideas and learning that could directly improve patient care.

We also have an internationally recognised Service Improvement Team which provide experts and coaches in service improvement techniques who can help test your idea and bring it to life.

Staff networks

We have a number of staff networks to provide information and support to a wide range of different staff groups. These include a black, minority and ethnic (BME) network, a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) network and a disabled employees network. These networks also provide insight and help guide the work underway to ensure everyone working at the Trust feels valued, celebrated and listened to.

Work in the one of the greenest cities in Europe

Sheffield is England’s fourth-largest city, with a population of over half a million. We have a wealth of facilities you would expect to find in a major city, yet maintain a welcoming and accessible feel. We are a friendly city with a prosperous economy and relatively low cost of living, all of which makes for an excellent quality of life.

The city of Sheffield contains an abundance of entertainment and cultural activities including award-winning theatres, such as the Crucible and Lyceum which are major regional attractions, museums and galleries, a variety of clubs and live music venues, and a range of spectator and participation sports. With a thriving cultural industries quarter and a range of city-wide events throughout the year, there is something on offer to suit everyone’s taste and interests.

Located on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. More than a third of the city lies inside the beautiful Peak District National Park, and it is virtually surrounded by open countryside – over half the city’s population live within 15 minutes of open countryside.

It is also the greenest city in England, with 175 woodlands and 75 public parks. There is also a wide range of affordable housing and excellent schools on offer.

Sheffield has good rail and road links, with a typical train journey to London St Pancras taking only two hours. Manchester Airport is also just over an hour away with an ever expanding repertoire of routes to national and international destinations.
